Prof Daniel Steffens

Professor Daniel Steffens is a Senior Principal Research Fellow in Surgical & Complex Intervention Trials at the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, University of Sydney. He is Senior Director of the Surgical Outcomes Research Centre (SOuRCe) at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Director of the Evidence-Based (P)Rehabilitation Research Group, and a Career Development Fellow with the Cancer Institute NSW. Professor Steffens leads the NHMRC-funded PRIORITY Trial and MRFF-funded PRIORITY-CONNECT 2 Trial, and directs the PREdiCT international cohort study across 36 sites in 19 countries. With over 260 peer-reviewed publications and more than $10 million in competitive funding, he has been pivotal in establishing prehabilitation as standard care for cancer surgery patients globally. He is Founder of the Global (P)Rehabilitation Initiative and is leading the inaugural World Prehabilitation Day in September 2026.
