Dr Erin Heyer

Dr Erin Heyer is an Assistant Director in the Innovation and Integration Section of Genomics Australia within the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing. Her work focuses on improving access to personalised cancer care by supporting its transition into sustainable, routine health care.
As both a wet-bench scientist and a bioinformatician, Dr Heyer brings a multidisciplinary perspective to her work. She is particularly interested in the practical, policy and implementation challenges involved in translating genomic innovation from research settings into routine clinical care.
Prior to joining Genomics Australia, she pursued postdoctoral research in cancer genomics at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and completed her PhD in RNA biochemistry and computational biology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
