Professor Matt Kuperholz has been using AI most days for the last 30 years. After studying computer science and actuarial science Matt started his career as a consulting actuary and shortly after transitioned into data science, where he was the general manager for an AI software company in the late 1990's. For 10 years Matt worked closely with Deloitte, later joined as a partner, leading their advanced analytics consulting business where he applied AI to customer, employee, supply chain and operations challenges to increase business value for his clients both in Australia and around the world. Matt then spent 10 years as the Chief Data Scientist at PwC where he provided AI advisory and implementation services to over 40 of the ASX top 50 companies, as well as leading their global Responsible AI offering starting in 2017. In 2023 Matt left PwC and started Matt Kuperholz Consultancy, specialising in assisting his clients increase their AI maturity by applying it to create business value against their most pressing challenges and business opportunities. Matt has continued championing Responsible AI through his not-for-profit endeavour <M>achine OR <H>uman. Over the last 10 years Matt has held honarary professor roles with Deakin University, including Practice Professor with the Centre for AI and Future of Work, as well as his current Honarary Enterprise Professorship with the Faculty of Business and Economics at Melbourne University. An AI Realist, rather than AI Optimist or AI Pessimist, Matt is lucky to live his purpose everyday optimising humanity using technology to maximise the incredible upside and minimise the risks to businesses and society through the Responsible use of AI.
